How to use the rotate image tool
A photo lying on its side, or a horizon tilted by a degree or two, undercuts the shot regardless of what it contains. Rotation covers both problems, but they are not the same job: quarter turns fix orientation, while one or two degree nudges fix level.

Quarter turns versus custom angles
The two produce different kinds of output, so it pays to use only the one you actually need.
- 90, 180 and 270 — pixels move without being recomputed, so quality is effectively untouched and no empty corners appear
- Any other angle — pixels are resampled, adding very slight softness and leaving empty corners
- Those corners stay transparent in PNG and WEBP and are filled white in JPG
- If the margin bothers you after levelling, trim it with the image crop tool
How many degrees does levelling take
Most tilted photos need a surprisingly small correction, and the larger the angle the more margin you have to crop away.
- Handheld shots typically sit between 0.5 and 3 degrees off
- Use a horizon or a building edge as the reference line
- Past 5 degrees it is usually better to reframe the shot
- Positive values turn clockwise, negative values counter-clockwise
Flipping is not rotating
Rotation turns the picture; flipping mirrors it. The results are not interchangeable.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Every step from picking the file to saving happens inside the browser on your own device, so portraits and unreleased images are safe to work with here.
Does a 90 degree turn cost quality?
Turning by a multiple of 90 only moves pixel positions, so quality is effectively untouched. Saving as JPG recompresses the result, which costs a little; choose PNG if that matters.
Why does a custom angle make the image larger?
A tilted rectangle needs a bigger rectangle to contain it. Rotating a square by 45 degrees, for instance, needs a width equal to its diagonal. The extra space shows up as empty corners, which you can trim with the crop tool.
It looks upright on my phone but lies down after upload.
Some programs read the EXIF orientation flag and others ignore it. This tool redraws the actual pixels as shown on screen, so the saved file looks the same everywhere.
Can I flip and rotate at the same time?
Yes. Turn on a flip and set an angle and both apply. The flip is calculated first and the rotation second, so what you see in the preview is what gets saved.
Is transparency preserved?
Yes in PNG and WEBP, including the empty corners produced by a non-quarter angle. JPG does not support transparency, so those corners are filled white.
Can I rotate several photos at once?

When does the quality value matter?
