PDF page deletion is about checking what remains, not just what disappears

Deleting pages from a PDF is closer to building a clean new copy than erasing a page inside the original file. You choose the pages that should be removed, check the order of what remains, and download a separate PDF. That matters for scans, contracts, handouts, and shared documents where one missing page can change the meaning of the file.

This workspace keeps the large preview, current page, zoom level, thumbnail queue, delete action, and download action in the same area. Use the preview to read the page, use the thumbnails to mark and order pages, then download only after the remaining sequence makes sense.

What PDF page deletion means

A PDF stores a document as a sequence of pages. Page deletion removes selected pages from the output and rebuilds the remaining pages as a new PDF. It does not rewrite paragraphs, edit signatures, or change text inside a page.

  • Selected pages are left out of the downloaded PDF.
  • The original file stays unchanged in your device.
  • The saved file follows the order shown by the remaining thumbnails.

When this tool is useful

Use it when the document is already correct except for a few pages that should not be in the shared copy. Typical cases include blank scan pages, duplicate pages, old cover sheets, or an attachment page that belongs in a different file.

  • Remove blank pages from a scan
  • Drop duplicate pages after a copier error
  • Make a shorter sharing copy without an appendix
  • Fix a simple page-order problem before sending a file

How the workspace is arranged

The large preview is for reading the page; the thumbnail queue is for choosing pages and checking order. The top actions let you add another PDF, select pages, delete selected pages, reset the state, and download the final result.

  • Current page: the page shown in the large preview
  • Zoom level: useful for checking small text or drawings
  • Thumbnail mark: shows which pages are selected for removal
  • Download PDF: saves the pages that remain on screen

A safer deletion order

Start by adding the PDF, then compare the large preview with the thumbnails. Mark only the pages you want to remove, run the delete action, and review the first page, last page, and the pages around every deletion point before downloading.

  • Add PDF
  • Compare preview and thumbnails
  • Mark pages to remove
  • Use Remove selected
  • Review the remaining order
  • Download the new PDF

When page numbers do not match

The page number shown by the viewer can differ from the number printed inside the document. A cover, table of contents, or appendix can shift the visible numbering. When the file matters, choose pages by reading the preview rather than relying only on remembered page numbers.

  • Documents with covers or front matter
  • Scans with missing or repeated paper pages
  • PDFs without printed page numbers
  • Appendices that restart numbering

Reordering is different from deleting

Dragging thumbnails changes the order of pages that remain. Deleting excludes pages from the output. If you do both, the downloaded PDF uses the final thumbnail order after deletion and reordering.

  • Move a cover to the front
  • Place an attachment after the main text
  • Repair a scan whose pages were captured out of order

A practical example

If a 12-page handout contains two blank scan pages and one duplicate signature page, select only those three pages and remove them. Before downloading, confirm that the remaining nine pages still read in the right sequence.

  • Example: pages 1-9 are content, page 10 is blank, page 11 is duplicate, page 12 is an extra cover
  • Remove pages 10, 11, and 12
  • Download the cleaned 9-page PDF

Browser processing and limits

Ordinary editing runs in the current browser. Encrypted, password-protected, or damaged PDFs may fail to open, and very large image-heavy scans can take time to preview. The tool also prevents saving an empty PDF, so at least one page must remain.

  • Encrypted PDFs may not open
  • Damaged PDFs can fail during preview
  • Large scanned files use more browser memory
  • At least one page must remain before saving

Pages you should not remove too quickly

Some pages look unnecessary until you check their role in the document. A blank page may separate duplex print sections, a cover may carry the version, and a signature page may be legally important. Check the page role before deleting it.

  • Signature, seal, or approval pages
  • Cover pages with version or date information
  • Table-of-contents links that depend on page order
  • First pages of appendices or exhibits

How this differs from other PDF tasks

Merging combines several PDFs. Splitting creates several files from one PDF. This tool focuses on one file: remove unwanted pages and keep the rest together as a single new PDF.

  • Merge: many PDFs into one file
  • Split: one PDF into separate files
  • Page deletion: one PDF minus selected pages

Before you download

A short review prevents most mistakes. Check the thumbnail marks, the first and last remaining pages, and the order of pages around each deletion point. This is especially important when printed page numbers and viewer page numbers differ.

  • Are the marked thumbnails really the pages to remove?
  • Do the first and last pages look correct?
  • Is the remaining thumbnail order the order you want?
  • Will the output file name be easy to distinguish from the original?

After download

Open the saved PDF once before you send it. Confirm the total page count, read the pages before and after each deletion point, and keep the original file until the cleaned copy is accepted.

  • Check total page count
  • Check context around removed pages
  • Check the final page
  • Keep the original until review is finished

FAQ

Does this tool change my original PDF?

No. It builds a new PDF from the pages that remain and leaves the original file unchanged.

What should I check before using Remove selected?

Look at the large preview, the current page number, and the thumbnail selection mark together. The marked thumbnails are the pages that will be removed.

Does thumbnail order affect the downloaded PDF?

Yes. The remaining thumbnail order becomes the page order in the downloaded PDF.

Can encrypted or damaged PDFs be opened?

They may not open in the browser. Check the original file status first if the preview fails.
