Understanding credit-weighted GPA across US and international scales
GPA is weighted by course credits, not by a simple count of courses. A three-credit course affects the average three times as much as a one-credit course with the same grade.
The US 4.0 scale and the Korean 4.5 scale define letter grades differently. Proportional conversion gives a quick comparison, but official evaluations follow the receiving institution's rules.
Credits determine each course's weight
GPA is weighted by credits, not by the number of courses. A three-credit course affects the average three times as much as a one-credit course with the same grade.
Course names are notes; credits and grades drive the calculation.

The US 4.0 grade table explained
The standard US 4.0 scale uses A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0 and so on, with plus/minus modifiers at 0.3 intervals. A+ is typically capped at 4.0.
Some institutions assign A+ = 4.3. Always check the official grade table.

Keep pass/fail outside GPA
P and NP are treated as pass/fail outcomes without grade points, so they leave both the numerator and included-credit denominator.
An institution may still count a pass toward earned credits; check that rule separately.

The Korean 4.5 and 4.3 scales compared
Korean universities use 4.5 (A+ = 4.5, A0 = 4.0) or 4.3 (A+ = 4.3). The scale selector lets you switch directly.

Plus/minus grades and their point values
The plus/minus system adds 0.3 per step: A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B- = 2.7 and so on. Schools that skip plus/minus use whole-point steps like A = 4, B = 3.
Check the receiving institution's table before submitting.

The 100-point value is proportional
The 100-point reference is GPA/max × 100. It is not an average of original exam marks, a percentile rank or an institution's published percentage formula.
If the transcript provides an official percentage, use that value.

Follow the transcript policy for repeats
Entering both the old and new attempt of a repeated course can double-weight it when the institution replaces the earlier grade. Policies may replace, average or retain both attempts.
Keep only the rows that the official cumulative GPA actually uses.

Separate major and cumulative GPA
A major GPA uses only courses assigned to the major; a cumulative GPA uses every included course. They answer different admissions questions.

Verify the weighted average with an example
For 3 credits of A, 3 of B+, 2 of A- and 3 of B, the quality-point sum is 12+9.9+7.4+9 = 38.3. Dividing by 11 included credits gives about 3.48.
Checking each product and the credit total is a practical way to find input errors.

How are P and NP handled?
