Start with distance and average speed before building the trip plan
This travel time calculator does not replace a map app. It gives you a quick planning estimate from the distance you already know and the transport mode you expect to use.
For the English page, the default example is miles first: 10 miles by car at about 31.1 mph. The calculator still uses the international mile conversion internally, so metric and imperial inputs stay consistent.
The formula is distance divided by average speed
The tool converts the entered distance to a common baseline, applies the selected average speed, and turns the result into minutes or hours. Ten miles by car at roughly 31.1 mph is about 19 minutes.

Use the real route distance, not a straight line
The straight-line distance between two points is usually shorter than the road, walking, or transit route you actually take. Use a map distance, ticket distance, or route planner distance when you have one.

Transport buttons choose average speeds
Walk, bike, car, bus, subway, and motorcycle each load a different baseline speed. These are planning defaults, not live traffic estimates, so city, route, and time of day can change the actual result.

Custom speed is for your own average
Use custom speed for scooters, shuttles, airport buses, slow scenic walks, or any mode not listed. A practical average that includes stops usually works better than a maximum speed.
Read the three result numbers together
The time alone can become ambiguous later. The converted distance and average speed tell you which conditions produced the result, making the estimate easier to copy into notes or share with someone else.

Mode comparison assumes the same distance
The comparison card sorts transport modes on the same distance. Real bus routes, rail transfers, and car routes can be different lengths, so read the list as a same-distance benchmark rather than a live routing result.
Arrival-based and departure-based planning answer different questions
Arrival-based planning works backwards from a fixed appointment, train, or flight time. Departure-based planning adds travel and rest time to a known start time so you can estimate when you arrive.

The 10 mile car example is a baseline, not a promise
The default English example is 10 miles by car. At about 31.1 mph, the result is around 19 minutes. If you need to arrive by 9:00 with a 10 minute buffer, the departure target is about 8:31.

Yes. Miles are the default for this locale, but kilometers and meters are still available. The calculator converts everything through the same baseline before displaying the result.
What should I enter as custom speed?
Enter the practical average speed for your situation, such as a shuttle, scooter, or slower walking pace. A real average that includes stops is more useful than a top speed.
How does the departure and arrival planner work?
Arrival-based planning subtracts travel time and buffer from the target arrival time. Departure-based planning adds travel time and rest time to the departure time.
